Homeworld 3 Reveals the Next Chapter in the Award-Winning Homeworld Franchise With New Story Trailer

Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing Showcase New Characters Alongside a New Enemy Faction Threatening the Hiigaran Civilization

COLOGNE, Germany – August 22 – Homeworld 3, the upcoming installment of the legendary award-winning sci-fi strategy series launching in February 2024, showcased the next chapter in its iconic story during the global unveiling of the new story reveal trailer at gamescom 2023. Premiered during the Opening Night Live 2023 pre-show, Blackbird Interactive (BBI) and Gearbox Publishing shared a first look at Homeworld 3’s universe-expanding saga that takes place decades after the events of Homeworld 2 and the golden age of galactic prosperity. The cinematic trailer also provides a first look at the looming threat to the Hiigaran fleet – the Incarnate faction. In addition, the newly revealed Homeworld 3 character concept art sheds new light on two key characters, Imogen S’jet and Isaac Paktu.

“When we first created the original Homeworld, I never imagined that it would resonate so deeply with so many people,” said Rob Cunningham, CEO and Founder of Blackbird Interactive. “But that connection has become our North Star. To give players those same chills as they left Kharak behind so many years ago — but to also expand this universe and take players even closer to its beating heart. It’s exhilarating to be in the homestretch of this next chapter alongside our friends at Gearbox. We’re looking forward to sharing even more of Homeworld 3 soon.”

“Not so long ago founding members of BBI set the bar with Homeworld for how stories should be told and the majesty of space can be portrayed in a strategy game,” said Steve Gibson, President of Gearbox Publishing. “BBI and many new team members have joined together to again, years later, raise that bar and take players further into the breathtaking Homeworld universe. Sharing this glimpse of what is to come is incredibly exciting as we head towards that launch in February of 2024, and we are eager to share even more in these last few months before the long awaited Homeworld 3.”

Developer Blackbird Interactive is raising the stakes of Homeworld’s iconic scale and artistry by fully realizing their original vision, 20 years in the making, of elegant and cinematic space combat.

The epic scale and grandeur of Homeworld has returned with even bigger environments for players to explore, new mechanics to master that expand the gameplay experience, and a dramatic story full of the compelling emotional resonance the series is known for.

About Homeworld:

The original Homeworld was developed by Relic Entertainment and launched in September of 1999 to critical success, winning over 50 awards including Game of the Year and was credited with popularizing the 3D real-time strategy genre. Homeworld Remastered Collection, consisting of the original Homeworld and Homeworld 2, was released more than a decade later, reviving the franchise for series fans and newcomers alike. Blackbird Interactive was founded in 2010 by former members of the Relic Entertainment Homeworld team, including Art Director Rob Cunningham and Lead artist Aaron Kambeitz. After its founding, BBI began working on a game they considered the spiritual successor to Homeworld, and then partnered with Gearbox (the now IP holder and game publisher) to release Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.

About Blackbird Interactive:

Blackbird Interactive (BBI) is a creative-fueled, future-driven, independent studio – behind such games as Hardspace: Shipbreaker, Minecraft Legends, and the upcoming Homeworld 3 and Earthless. Founded in 2010 by Rob Cunningham and a team of former Relic Entertainment and Electronic Arts employees, the award-winning Vancouver studio boasts its own internal CG cinematics department led by the founder of Pixar Canada – and is reinventing how world-class games are made through its innovative Skunkworks game jam program and four-day work week.
